RMC hose length meter - precise measurement without complaints

RMC hose length meter on a stand in a workshop hallAI

The RMC is a precise length meter for hydraulic and industrial hoses - it measures out a set length. The RMC only measures: it has no cutting function, the hose is cut off with a separate cutting machine. The hose passes through the measuring rollers, the digital LED counter shows the current length in metres (or inches - switchable), and the pressure knob adjusts how the rollers fit against the hose regardless of its diameter.

Available in two versions: RMC-basic - the device alone, for mounting on a workshop worktop or for portable use - and RMC-plus with a ready-made galvanised steel stand. The diameter range of Ø6-Ø32 mm covers standard 1SN/2SN, R1AT/R2AT and PTFE hoses. An accuracy of ± 0.5% means that a 10.00 m length will come out with a tolerance of ±5 cm - no more length complaints.

What gives the RMC its precision

Six features that make the difference between measuring by hand with a tape and repeatable measuring of the length of every piece of hose.

Digital LED counter

LED display with large digits legible from 2 m. Reading in metres or inches, reset function with one button.

Accuracy ± 0.5%

Measurement class for commercial workshops. A 10 m length with a tolerance of ±5 cm - in line with industry standards.

Pressure adjustment knob

Independent adjustment of the roller pressure for different hose diameters - from thin PTFE Ø6 to thick 2SN Ø32 mm.

Inlet and outlet guides

They stabilise the hose path on entry and eliminate slip and loss of measurement calibration during fast feeding.

Measurement in metres and inches

A switch on the panel changes the unit - m (accuracy 0.01) or in (0.1). Useful for customers working to the SAE standard - no converting in your head.

IP54 class - workshop durability

Housing resistant to hydraulic oil, greases, cleaning agents and mechanical impacts. It works where ordinary electronics would fail.

Who the RMC meter is for

RMC meter on a workshop table - measuring hose lengthAI

Workshops making hydraulic hoses to order - the RMC stands in line with the crimping machine. The hose comes off the uncoiler (e.g. the RHR), passes through the counter and is measured out to a set length (cutting off is done by a separate cutting machine). Three workstations, one operator - no stress about measuring with a tape.

Hydraulic hose distributors use the RMC-plus at the sales counter: the customer asks "give me 8 metres of DN10", the operator runs the hose through the counter, cuts it off with a cutting machine and issues a receipt - the whole thing takes 90 seconds. Mobile crews and machinery service shops choose the RMC-basic - mounting on a worktop in a van, measuring in the field, powered from a 12V socket through an inverter.

OEM production lines (manufacturers of agricultural, forestry and construction machinery) integrate the RMC into their own hydraulics assembly station - repeatable hose lengths on successive machines eliminate errors during installation.

Construction and materials

Measuring rollers with an anti-slip texture and the LED display of the RMC meterAI

The housing is made of a powder-coated steel body - resistant to hydraulic oil, greases, cleaning agents and mechanical workshop impacts (IP54 class). The measuring rollers have an anti-slip polyurethane lining (Shore A 85) - they keep contact with the hose regardless of its outer cover (rubber, thermoplastic, steel mesh).

Measurement is performed by an incremental encoder coupled to the roller axis - resolution 1 mm (reading rounded to 0.01 m on the display). The 7-segment LED display has brightness tuned to workshop conditions (legible both under hall lighting and against outdoor light).

In the RMC-plus version the stand is a welded galvanised steel frame (hot-dip galvanising) with four adjustable anti-slip feet. Height of the device when mounted on the stand: 110 cm - the hose passes through the counter at operator waist height, without bending down.

Basic or plus - which version is for you

RMC-basic is the device alone - you mount it on your own workshop worktop (4 M8 screws, holes in the housing base) or use it as a mobile unit by placing it on any work surface. Good for workshops that already have a workstation set up and need to add a counter to it, and for mobile crews working from a van.

RMC-plus is a ready-made workstation - the device factory-mounted on a stand with adjustable feet. Working height 110 cm, total weight 24 kg, stable on any floor. The choice for workshops opening a new hose-handling workstation, distributors setting up a measuring counter and OEM offices buying workstations in series.

In price terms the plus version is approx. + 25% relative to basic - compared with the cost of an equivalent made-to-order workshop stand, the difference pays for itself after the first delivery (you do not lose a day organising your own tooling).

Why the RMC - vs a measuring tape and vs cheap imports

Measuring with a tape vs the RMC meterAI

Measuring a hydraulic hose with a measuring tape on the floor is standard practice but prone to error: the hose twists, the tape slips, the operator rounds in their head. The result: lengths with a tolerance of ±10-20 cm, length complaints, wasted hose (offcuts of short pieces end up in the bin). The RMC eliminates this in 8 seconds per measurement - at 50 measurements a day it saves 30 minutes of work and a few metres of hose per month.

The second common dilemma is cheap imports (200-500 €). The problem with imported counters: not adapted to hydraulic hoses (the rollers slip on a rubber cover), poor oil resistance, no service in PL. The RMC is designed for a specific application (DN6-DN32, hydraulic and industrial hoses), serviced in Poland, with Polish documentation.

The third argument: workstation autonomy. The RMC does not require integration with a PLC, a crimping machine or specialist software - you plug it into a 230 V socket, reset it and measure. It works with any crimping machine in the workshop, regardless of manufacturer, so expanding the workshop with an RMC does not block future changes on the crimping machine's hardware side.

Accuracy, compatibility, calibration

Accuracy ± 0.5% is a measurement class for professional workshops handling hydraulic hoses - the industry standard tolerance is ±1% of length, so the RMC has a 2× margin. In practice this means: a 1 m measurement = ±5 mm, a 10 m measurement = ±50 mm, a 50 m measurement = ±250 mm. For measuring out hose lengths on workshop orders this is entirely sufficient - no customer complains about a length that differs from the ordered one by 5 cm.

The range of supported diameters is Ø6 mm to Ø32 mm outside diameter. Compatible hose types: 1SN, 2SN, 4SP, 4SH (EN 853/856 standard - hydraulic hoses with steel wire braid), R1AT, R2AT (SAE J517), braided PTFE and thermoplastic hoses (in accordance with EN 855). In practice: all standard hoses found in machinery, agricultural and industrial hydraulics.

Calibration: the counter leaves the factory calibrated; checking once a year is recommended by pulling a known length standard through it (e.g. a 5 m certified steel tape). In case of deviation - adjustment by Ratebo service or by yourself following the manual (the procedure takes ~10 minutes).

Najczęstsze pytania

A tape gives a tolerance of ±10-20 cm and takes 45 seconds to measure a 10 m hose (the hose twists, the tape slips). The RMC measures in 8 seconds with an accuracy of ±0.5% (i.e. ±5 cm for 10 m). At 50 measurements a day it saves 30 minutes of operator time and a few metres of hose per month in short offcuts.

± 0.5% of the measured length - a professional class found in workshop hydraulic hose length meters. In practice: 1 m = ±5 mm, 10 m = ±50 mm, 50 m = ±250 mm. The industry standard tolerance for hose length is ±1%, so the RMC has a 2× accuracy margin.

Diameter range Ø6-Ø32 mm (outside). Types: 1SN/2SN/4SP/4SH (EN 853/856 - steel wire braid hoses), R1AT/R2AT (SAE J517), braided PTFE, thermoplastic hoses (EN 855). In other words: all standard hoses found in machinery, agricultural and industrial hydraulics. Rubber covers, thermoplastic covers and steel mesh - all handled by the anti-slip measuring rollers.

Yes - a switch on the panel changes the reading unit between metres (m, accuracy 0.01) and inches (in, accuracy 0.1). Useful for workshops serving customers working to the American/British (SAE) standard - no need to convert by hand.

Yes - the stand alone can be bought as an accessory, e.g. when you start with the RMC-basic and want to convert it to the plus version later. The stand weighs 14 kg, dimensions 60×50×85 cm, supplied for self-assembly (4 M10 screws, PDF manual included).

It leaves the factory calibrated. Checking once a year is recommended - you pull a known length standard through the counter (e.g. a 5 m certified steel tape) and compare it with the reading. In case of deviation, adjustment takes ~10 minutes following the manual; alternatively send it to Ratebo service (free calibration during the warranty period).

230 V AC, power consumption ~5 W (LED + electronics). For mobile crews working from a van we recommend a 12→230 V inverter with a minimum power of 100 W (available for ~100 PLN). A battery version (battery-pack 12V) is planned for the next iteration.

No - the RMC works autonomously. You plug it into a 230 V socket, reset it with a button and measure. No signal from the crimping machine, no PLC, no special software. It works with any crimping machine in the workshop, regardless of manufacturer, and with your own assembly stations.
